Announcing the Formation of an Emergency Disaster Assistance Grant Fund

Genealogists have long been active proponents supporting archival repositories. Many genealogists are concerned for our colleagues that suffered serious damage during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The Society of Southwest Archivists and the Society of American Archivists are pleased to announce the formation of an Emergency Disaster Assistance Grant Fund-a fund established to address the stabilization and recovery needs of archival repositories that have been directly affected by hurricanes.

Brigham Young University's Annual 2006 Computerized Genealogy Conference

The ninth annual Computerized Genealogy Conference at Brigham Young University has been scheduled for Friday and Saturday March 10-11, 2006.  This conference is designed to be a how-to guide for everyone, including beginning, intermediate, and advanced researchers.  The focus of the conference is to learn how new computer programs and advancements in existing programs can help you be more effective in genealogy and family history work.

Ohio Genealogical Society Annual Conference 2007 Call For Papers

The Ohio Genealogical Society (OGS), the largest state genealogical society in the USA, has member chapters not only in each county in Ohio, but also has active chapters in other states.  The OGS conference draws approximately 700 attendees annually.  Proposals for the annual conference to be held at the Hyatt Regency Columbus in April 2007 will be accepted until June 15, 2006, via mail or email at the addresses below.

BYU Broadcasting to Air QUESTIONS AND ANCESTORS

The Genealogist has been well known for the various census indexes on the site but now they are being revealed as full transcripts and will all eventually have linked images. The main thrust has been on 1841 and 1851 with the main counties of London, Lancashire, Yorkshire plus Berkshire, Bucks, Essex, Herts, Middlesex and Surrey.

"Just a line to let you know I have been wounded and am in the hospital in Japan. His two-page letter, which describes in dramatic detail how close he came to dying, was found decades later in a trash can in a Chicago bank.
