Durham Records Online, a website with over 1.6 million searchable census and parish records of County Durham, England, has added several new features and has sharply reduced their prices for the holidays.
The new Matching Service allows you to correspond with other researchers who are looking at the same records as you. If two people are signed up for the Matching Service, and one views a record (census or parish record) that the other person has already viewed, both people are notified by email, and each is given the other's email address. The goal of the Matching Service is to allow people to know who else is working on the same families, so they can collaborate, further extend their research efforts, and perhaps make contact with distant and previously unknown relatives.
Durham Records Online is also offering 30% off site credits (used to view record transcriptions) for the holidays. At the largest quantity purchased (26 credits), this brings the price down to 67p or $1.01 US per record. If you've been saving up ancestors to look up here, now is the time to stock up on credits and jump-start your new year of research.
Newest additions to their data set include transcriptions of the entire 1841 Gateshead and Sunderland censuses, fully indexed and searchable.
