I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth Lapointe as the new Director - International/At Large effective immediately. Elizabeth replaces Sandra Devlin who resigned earlier this fall due to health issues. Elizabeth will serve the remainder of this year's term for Sandra and will stand for election in the spring of 2006.

An historical look at WWII through the eyes of one soldier has been documented in Lucky Stars and Gold Bars: A World War II Odyssey. Karen Sladek, the daughter of the letter-writing GI, Lt. Lyle Sladek, provides a historical collection of letters, photos, and documents that not only recount the hard days of fighting and the long, lonely nights away from home, but they also helped to give Karen a new glimpse into her father, "Dad never really talked about the war, I knew he was there but that was about it. Then one day I happened on these letters and I was immediately drawn into his world and the people he fought with. It was an amazing experience."

The GRAMPS project is proud to announce the 2.0.9 ("Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition!") release of GRAMPS for Linux and UNIX. The release can be downloaded from the GRAMPS SourceForge site at http://sourceforge.net/projects/gramps
This release adds many incremental improvements throughout the whole program. This includes command line, document generators, reports, tools, filters, graphical user interface responsiveness, web site generator, import and export, and many other areas with new features and bug fixes.
