Ancestor Tracks Introduces Major Source for Early PA Settlers

Ancestor Tracks, the producer of the series of books and CDs in the Early Landowners of Pennsylvania series, has announced the release of First Landowners of Pennsylvania: Colonial and State Warrant Registers in the PA Archives, Harrisburg 1682-ca 1940.  Available for the first time outside of the Pennsylvania Archives in Harrisburg, this CD of .pdf files contains three major resources for researchers:  (1) the warrant register for Original Purchasers (starting in 1682) with an everyname index for this register; (2) two registers for Old Rights Purchasers (one for Philadelphia and one for Bucks & Chester Counties combined, also starting in 1682); and (3) all of the warrant registers (67 volumes, one for each county, starting with those in existence in 1733) for the original sales from the Penns, and then the state, to the first private owners of the land throughout Pennsylvania.  These registers predate the deed books located in each county.

Council of Proprietors of West New Jersey holdings moved to State Archives

Robert S. Haines, President of the Council of Proprietors of West New Jersey, announced today that the council's vast holdings of surveys, record books and maps dating back to the seventeenth century have been deposited with the State Archives in Trenton.  The nine-member Council and its Surveyor General unanimously resolved to enter into a depository agreement with the Archives at a full meeting held in Burlington on October 12th.  The agreement places the documents, including the monumental "Concessions and Agreements" and original 1664 patents from the Duke of York, in a state-of-the-art facility and under the custodianship of professionally trained archivists.

"Celebrating Family History" is now available from Heritage Books, Inc. (paperback, 287 pages with index, $25).

This is an anthology of the most memorable entries sent to the writing contest of the So. Calif. Genealogical Society in the contest's first five years (2000-2004).

NGS Seeks Nominations for the 2006 Hall of Fame

Lewis Zandbergen named as Editor for the Ontario Genealogical Society

Lewis Zandbergen of Stirling, Ontario has been named as the new Editor of Families/Newsleaf, the quarterly journal and newsletter of the Ontario Genealogical Society. Families/Newsleaf has one of the largest circulations of any genealogical journal in Canada. Lewis Zandbergen becomes the ninth editor since the inception of the journal in 1962 and will take up his position with the first issues in 2006.
