Genealogists from across many states will convene at the 36th Annual Genealogical Fair hosted by the St. Louis Genealogical Society on 8 April 2006. This event will be held at the Maryland Heights Centre, 2344 McKelvey Road, St. Louis from 8:00 until 4:00.
Classes and lectures based on the theme of "Coming Home" will be offered. There will be three session threads. The first thread is Coming Home from the Military, which includes presentations about using military records to learn more about ancestors. Richard G. Sayre, longtime researcher, lecturer, and writer from Virginia, will be present to provide his expertise on the military service men returning home. His sessions will address Bounty Land, Fraternal Organizations, Veterans' Medical Records and Soldiers' Homes.
A second thread will be Coming Home to the Midwest and Beyond. Pamela Boyer Porter, cg, cgl, a popular St. Louis speaker, is the other featured speaker. She will cover migration into and out of the Midwest as well as regional dialects and how they help provide clues to help us further our research. Boyer Porter is the author of Online Roots: How to Discover Your Family's History and Heritage with the Power of the Internet and Research in Missouri. Another popular historian and biographer, Father William Barnaby Faherty, S.J., of St. Louis University, will address the cultures of St. Louis.
The third thread will be Coming Home to Genealogical Basics. These sessions will address the many aspects of using computers, software packages and websites for conducting genealogical research. Local genealogists, Ed Murray, Ilene Murray, Patricia Walls Stamm cg, cgl, and Ted Steele will provide interesting presentations focused on a wide range of genealogical topics.
In addition to the presentations and lectures, exhibitors from across the United States will be on hand to offer a variety of genealogical books and materials. Fair participants are encouraged to bring old photographs for restoration with them as photo restoration services will be an available service at the Fair. Audio CDs of the presentations will be made available of all the presentations.
