The American Society of Genealogists announces the publication of by Marsha Hoffman Rising, CG, FASG. After seventeen years of researching the first 1000 pioneers to buy federal land from the Springfield, Missouri land office, Ms. Rising found the out-of-state origins of 854 of these men and women and wrote personal accounts for each.
The reference contains biographical sketches of 1000 pioneers, complete birth-to-death records for many of them, as well as the first generation of their descendants, bringing many families down to the Civil War and afterward. Consisting of over 3000 pages in four volumes, this work not only describes the lives of these pioneers, but explains how Rising found their origins. These various methods will not only work for 19th century pioneers in the Ozarks, but for other time periods and locations as well. Completely indexed by name, subject and geographical location, this work covers primary records from over 600 counties throughout the Upper South.
