The following announcement was written by the East Tennessee Historical Society:
KNOXVILLE, TN (October 12, 2006) On Friday, October 27, the East Tennessee Historical Society will sponsor “A Tribute to Cas Walker,” featuring recently discovered film clips and vintage film footage from his varied career as a Knoxville businessman, politician, and TV host. Loved by many, derided by others, Walker was a major force in local business and politics. Hundreds of local musicians, such as Dolly Parton, got a start to stardom on his long-running “Cas Walker’s Farm and Home Hour.” The program is produced by Brad Reeves and Loiusa Trott of the Tennessee Archives of Moving Image and Sound and is sponsored by Dollywood and WDVX Radio.
David West and his Cider Mountain Boys will warm up the crowd with music once played on the old Cas Walker Farm and Home Hour. West was once a regular on the Walker show and was with him at the last TV performance. West’s 6 p.m. performance will be broadcast live on WDVX Radio. Local artist Amy Campbell will also be on hand with prints of her paintings of Cas Walker, David West, Marshall Andy, and others.
Two showings of the film clips will be presented on October 27—one at 6 p.m. and the other at 8:15. Although the program is free and open to the public, seating is limited, and reservations are recommended. To make reservations, call 865-215-8824 or email stuart@east-tennessee-history.org. Please indicate the number of tickets and the preferred performance time. Reserved seats will be held until 5 minutes before show time before being released to the general public. The program is at the East Tennessee Historical Society, 601 S. Gay Street (across from the Tennessee Theatre).
