KNOXVILLE, TN (October 20, 2006) The exhibit Living On: Portraits of Holocaust Survivors and Liberators concludes its stay in East Tennessee on October 22 with a film screening and discussion by Nashville filmmaker and television producer Will Pedigo.
His documentary, “Living On: Tennesseans Remembering the Holocaust,” provides for a valuable opportunity to hear first hand the stories of Holocaust survivors and liberators of Tennessee. Pedigo’s film was made as he documented photographer Robert Heller and journalist Dawn Weiss Smith during their travels across the state acquiring interviews with people of Tennessee who experienced the Holocaust. “More than just a documentation of the process this heartfelt film captures how these incredible individuals have lived with what they have experienced, and also carries their stories on for future generations.” The film focuses on historical images that combined with the stories of survivors captures each individual’s amazing story of surviving the Holocaust, as well as their struggles in coping with the memories of this horrid event. Pedigo’s film received three Emmy nominations and won a southern regional Emmy.
Come join us at the East Tennessee Historical Society for a uniquely personal experience. This is the final installment of this series of exhibits, and as Knowles states, "There will come a time when we won't have the benefit of hearing their first-hand experiences, so we need to take advantage of the time we have with them." The event will begin at 3 p.m. and Will Pedigo will be on hand for a discussion of the film afterwards. The program is free and open to the public.
