First year brings stability, investment, and growth
ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN – National Archive Publishing Company (NAPC) celebrates its one-year anniversary this week. The company, founded on October 28, 2005, is composed of three main businesses: UMI® Periodicals in Microform, XanEdu® Custom Publishing, and NAPC Content Solutions.
“We are both proud of and honored by the events of the past year, “ said Dan Arbour, President and CEO, National Archive Publishing Company. “Just 12 months ago, we gathered to talk about a new company, a new culture, and a new direction for these businesses. Building a company and making it successful in its first year has been a tremendous accomplishment.
“Today, employment is up, all major segments of our business are doing well, and we are looking ahead for continued expansion.
“Every NAPC employee has worked hard to take on new challenges, from developing a new infrastructure, to establishing a major new business line in NAPC Content Solutions, to finding new ways to respond to customer needs. And we are honored by the positive response from customers, vendors, and partners, who have helped us achieve early success,” said Arbour.
Key milestones in the company’s first year include:
· Launching the NAPC Content Solutions business, which exceeded revenue goals in its first nine months of operation
- Increasing employment levels by 5% to support a growing business
- Investing nearly $3 million in new infrastructure and technology to support the business
- Being named the #1 distributor of Harvard business cases by Harvard Business School Publishing (through the XanEdu Custom Publishing business)
- Publishing a record number of new coursepack titles, reaching nearly 400,000 college students, making XanEdu the leading provider of coursepacks in the world
- Developing substantial new business, including major digitization and filming projects. Notable projects include:
· Helping several universities in the south recover from Hurricane Katrina by replacing collections damaged by flooding.
- Multiple contracts with information suppliers to digitize print content for electronic delivery
- A major contract to provide digitization and copyright clearance services to support a government agency (more details to be released soon)
· Securing rights from key publishers to distribute content from thousands of publications. Notable publishing partners include Time Inc., Elsevier, Springer Science and Business Media, John Wiley & Sons, Reed Business Information, and The American Psychological Association.
