The Africana Heritage Project is an all-volunteer project sponsored by the Africana Studies department at the University of South Florida, dedicated to African American genealogy and history. Our research mission is to rediscover records that document the names and slaves of slaves, freedpersons and their descendants, and share those records on our free Internet site at http://www.africanaheritage.com. Our searchable database contains more than 4,000 images and transciptions of original historical documents which are useful for researching African American heritage.
The USF Africana Heritage Project exists to serve the research community and to highlight the importance of rediscovering, understanding and preserving African American heritage. Access to the Africana Heritage website is, and always will be, 100% free.
