The following is an announcement from the Board for Certification of Genealogists:
Nancy Wright Brennan of San Antonio, Texas, is among the newest associates of the Board for Certification of Genealogists (BCG).
After years of study and work in the field of family history and the successful completion of the BCG requirements, Brennan may now use the service mark of Certified Genealogist (CG). With this designation, Brennan has shown competence in the general skill areas of research, evidence analysis, kinship determination, and reporting.
Each BCG associate specializes in certain geographic and ethnic areas or in certain phase of genealogical work.
Brennan retired from the City of San Antonio's Parks and Recreation Department, where she managed LaVillita, Tower of the Americas, and HemisFair Park. She earned a BA from Our Lady of the Lake University.
Brennan has attended over thirty national, state, and local genealogy conferences and workshops. She is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the Society of Descendents of Colonial Clergy, and the National Society United States Daughters of 1812. Brennan is active as a board member in numerous societies. She has presented programs of genealogical interest regionally, and has published articles in the San Antonio Genealogical Society's Our Heritage, the Texas State Genealogical Society's publication Stirpes, and a family newsletter.
As part of the application process to BCG, Brennan had to submit a case study drawn from her research resolving a challenging identity problem and to compile a narrative genealogy of three generations of a family.
"By achieving certification, researchers like Ms. Brennan demonstrate that they care about the quality of genealogical work that they pass on to posterity," Board President Connie Lenzen, CG, said. "And for consumers, certification gives assurance that they will be receiving competent, professional help." Associates must apply for renewal of their certification every five years and must continue to demonstrate quality standards in genealogical research.
Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the Board for Certification of Genealogists is an internationally recognized certification body, not a membership society.
